Johnny Estrada earns Silver Slugger Award

on .

One last triumph to tack onto Braves catcher Johnny Estrada's list of accomplishments in the 2004 season: he has been awarded the Silver Slugger Award, one of nine in each league, for the best offensive performance at his position. From the mlb.com article (which lists all the other winners):

The 28-year-old catcher hit .314 with nine homers and 76 RBIs this year. He hit .338 (47-for-139) with runners in scoring position.... In his first full big league season, Estrada also earned an All-Star Game selection and was named a first team All-Star by The Sporting News. He is currently one of the Major Leaguers in Japan on an exhibition tour.

If you also include Estrada's postseason performance in which he batted .353 with two home runs, he batted .315 with 11 homers, 36 doubles, 80 rbi, and a .459 slugging percentage in only 139 games. If he performs at any level near his 2004 performance next season, there will be zero reason for Phillies fans to believe they got the better end of the Estrada/Millwood trade.
