Braves 4, Cubs 2

on .

Chipper Jones accounted for all of the Braves offense and Tim Hudson shut down the Cubs as the Braves won the opener in Wrigley Field, 4-2. Hudson (10-7) pitched the whole game, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, a walk, and struck out 5. The Braves only got 5 hits on the night and didn't draw any walks. But Chipper hit his first 2 run homer in the 4th after Furcal doubled, and with a 2-2 tie in the top of the 9th, he hit what turned out to be the game-winning homer in the 9th off of reliever Kerry Wood. It was a good pitching duel for 8 innings, as Carlos Zambrano went 8 outstanding innings for the Cubs. Offensive contributor: Chipper Jones was 2-4 with 2 homers (his 12th and 13th homers), had 4 RBIs, and scored twice. The Marlins won, and everyone else is either playing late or off. The Braves lead by 4 games at the moment. John Thomson will go tomorrow against Jerome Williams.
