The Braves got 17 hits on their way to taking the middle game of the series, 8-4.
Smoltz (13-6) battled through 7 innings and gave up only 3 hits. Too bad that 2 of those hits were 2 run homers after walks. He gave up 4 runs on 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Reitsma pitched a scoreless 8th and Farnsworth pitched a perfect 9th.
The Brewers took a 2-0 lead on a home run by Geoff Jenkins. The Braves got them back on a 3rd inning RBI double by Giles to score Smoltz, and a 4th inning bases-loaded walk by Brian McCann.
The Brewers retook the lead with a 2 run homer by Bill Hall. But the Braves got them back on a 5th inning 2 RBI single by Chipper, and a go-ahead 2 out RBI single by Francoeur. They never looked back while scoring 3 more runs.
Offensive contributors: Marcus Giles was 3-5 with 2 doubles, a walk, an RBI, and scored. Jeff Francoeur was 3-5 with a double and an RBI. Chipper Jones was 3-6 with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Rafael Furcal was 2-5 with a walk, an RBI, and scored twice. Kelly Johnson was 2-3, walked twice, and had a run. Adam LaRoche was 1-3, walked 2 times, had an RBI, and scored. Brian McCann was 1-4 with a walk and had an RBI.
Everyone else in the division except for the Marlins lost.
