John Thomson's rotation spot is in jeopardy. He was downright horrid again. The good news about tonight: the bench players got a chance to get some at-bats and no one suffered any apparent injuries. Thomson (3-4) couldn't get out of the 4th. He gave up 5 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 2. Devine came in to give up a couple of those runs on another grand slam. Foster, Boyer, and Kolb pitched scoreless innings, but Reitsma gave up 2 more runs. The offense didn't do anything, either. Andruw hit his 40th homer, becoming the first Brave to do it since Chipper did it in his MVP season in '99. Other than that, they only got 3 hits and 4 runs. Offensive contributor: Andruw Jones was 1-3 with his 40th homer. The Mets are winning, the Marlins are losing, and the Nationals lost. The Phillies and Mets are in late games. The lead will likely go to 3.5 games. Mike Hampton will try to improve tomorrow against Mark Prior so that Hampton's spot won't be in jeopardy.
