Padres 12, Braves 7

on .

Ugh. Right now, I don't have any confidence in the starting pitchers other than Smoltz and Hudson. Thomson got nailed last night, and Hampton tonight. They got to get themselves fixed soon. I know they just came off the DL, but my patience wears thin with only a 4.5 game lead. Hampton (5-3) was just as bad as Thomson was last night. He lasted 3.1 innings, gave up 7 runs on 11 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Brower came on and gave up 2 runs in an inning and a third. Sosa was solid in his inning and a third. Foster pitched a shaky but scorless inning, Kolb gave up a 3 run homer in the 8th, and Reitsma pitched a perfect 9th. The game was close until the 4th, when the Padres got 6 runs off of Hampton and Brower. The Braves scored some runs and made it a 9-7 game in the 7th, but Kolb gave up a 3 run homer to put it out of reach. Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 4-5 with a double, an RBI, and scored twice. Jeff Francoeur was 3-5 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Rafael Furcal was 2-5 with a double and had 3 RBIs. Chipper Jones was 1-3, walked twice, and scored. The Phillies lost, the Nationals lost, the Marlins won, and the Mets won. The Braves lead by 4.5 games over the Marlins and Phillies. Horacio Ramirez will pitch tomorrow against Pedro Astacio, another Rangers castoff that the Padres seem to be collecting.
