The Braves have lost 3 games in a row. This time, the offense was to blame. They wasted several chances to score late and win the game.
Horacio Ramirez gave the Braves 8 good innings. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Farnsworth, Reitsma, and Boyer gave the Braves scoreless innings. Joey Devine (0-1) was solid in his first major league inning, but gave up a grand slam in his 2nd inning. Foster gave up another run before getting out of the inning.
The Braves couldn't score until the 6th. Furcal led off with a homer, then Francoeur had a 2 out RBI single. That was it.
Offensive contributors: Jeff Francoeur was 3-5 with an RBI. Rafael Furcal was 2-6 with his 11th homer. Kelly Johnson was 2-5. Marcus Giles was 2-6 with a double and scored. Brian McCann was 1-4 with a walk.
Everyone else plays tonight. If either the Phillies or Marlins win, the lead will be down to 3.5 games.
The Braves will try to salvage the final game of the series as John Smoltz will face Brian Lawrence tomorrow night.
