It's official: Brian Jordan has signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves for $600K, and up to another $400K in performance and roster bonuses.
Braves fans and baseball experts are concerned that the 37-year-old's (he'll be 38 by opening day) injury-prone tendencies of recent years might not allow him to pan out in MLB again, but John Schuerholz and the Braves think he's worth the low-risk investment, especially considering their current outfield situation.
Barring any surprises, the Braves opening day outfield will consist of Brian Jordan, Andruw Jones, and Raul Mondesi, a trio that would have made quite the fearsome threesome just five years ago. But Mondesi and Jordan are both on the downslopes of their careers, and some argue that Andruw Jones may never reach the superstardom he was once expected to reach. Still, one would presume that the Braves would be in good shape indeed if those three could remain healthy for most of the season, assuming they put up decent numbers.
