Braves 3, Dbacks 2

on .

Andruw Jones hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the top of the 9th to win a nailbiter. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th. Brad Halsey had a no-hitter through 5 innings. Noted for his control, he only walked one and allowed 4 hits on the night in 7.2 innings in a no-decision. By contrast, Braves pitchers walked 10 batters and allowed 5 hits in 9 innings, gave up 2 runs, and won the game. Go figure. Jorge Sosa started and pitched the first 5 innings, shutting out the snakes on 3 hits, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. The Diamondbacks then broke through in the bottom of the 6th against John Foster, scoring a run off a hit and a walk. Jay Powell then walked the tightrope for 1.1 innings, walking 2 and striking out 1. Macay McBride got out of his 7th inning jam, coaxing a long fly ball to center off of the bat of Shawn Green. The Braves tied and took a brief lead in the top of the 7th. Andruw walked was HBP, and Julio hit a long double to left-center to score him from 1st. Francoeur then hit a 2 out double to right-center to score Franco and give the Braves a 2-1 lead. The Diamondbacks tied in in the 8th off of KolBB. KolBB walked a man then Luis Gonzalez hit a game-tying double to deep right. KolBB has now given up 2 runs in his last 3 appearances, and doesn't appear to fit in high-leverage situations in my opinion. Chris Reitsma (2-2) came in surprisingly in a tie game on the road (so much for the Closer label tonight) and got out of Danny's mess. When Andruw homered in the top of the 9th, Reitsma picked up the win with a scoreless 9th inning around another walk. Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 1-3 with the game-winning homer, his 30th, and scored twice along with the RBI from the homer. Julio Franco and Rafael Furcal were each 2-4, Julio had an RBI and scored. Everyone in the NL East won. The Braves remain tied for the Division lead and for the WC. The hot Phillies are 4 games back in both pennant races. The hot Mets and the hot Astros are 4.5 games back. Horacio Ramirez will start the rubber game of the series tomorrow against Javier Vasquez.
