Braves 4, Cubs 0

on .

Happy 4th of July! Adam LaRoche homered twice while Kyle Davies and the Braves bullpen shutout the Cubs. The Braves scored 3 times in the first, on an Andruw Jones RBI single and an Adam LaRoche 2 run homer. They added another in the bottom of the 8th on a solo homer by LaRoche. Kyle Davies (4-2) pitched 6.2 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. His ERA dropped from 4.75 to 4.05. John Foster, Blaine Boyer, and Chris Reitsma had scoreless outings to finish up the game. Offensive contributors: LaRoche was 2-4 with his 10th and 11th homers, and had 3 of the 4 Braves RBIs. Kelly Johnson was 1-3 with a walk and scored. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a walk. The Nationals finally lost, so the Braves cut the lead to 4.5 games. The Marlins lost, and the Braves extended the Wild Card lead to 2.5 games. Tomorrow, Roman Colon will pitch against Greg Maddux. It will be Maddux's first start in Turner Field as a non-Brave.
