Braves 9, Phillies 1

on .

Kelly Johnson and Andruw Jones each hit 3 run homers, and Adam LaRoche added a 2 run shot as the Braves beat up on the Phillies, 9-1. Johnson broke a 1-1 tie in the 4th with a 2 out, 3 run homer off of Vicente Padilla. Andruw hit his 3 run homer in the 6th to make it 7-1. LaRoche hit his 2 run homer in the 9th to make it 9-1. John Smoltz (9-5) went 6 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. He passed Warren Spahn on the Braves all-time leaders in strikeouts list for 2nd place in franchise history. Only Phil Niekro has more. Smoltz lowered his ERA to 2.68, and was lifted after the 6th mainly because the Braves had a 6 run lead. Had it been a close game, he'd have probably stayed in, as he'd only thrown 86 pitches. Seeing as how he's on pace to pitch about 250 innings, that was probably a good idea. Blaine Boyer, Jim Brower, and Chris Reitsma each pitched scoreless innings to finish out the game. Offensive contributors: Kelly Johnson was 2-3 with the 3 run homer (his 5th) and also walked twice, and scored 3 times. Andruw Jones was 2-4 with his MLB-leading 26th homer and added a double and a walk. Adam LaRoche was 3-5 with his 9th homer and had 3 RBI. Rafael Furcal was 3-4 with a walk and scored twice. Pete Orr was 2-5 and scored twice. Washington won another 1 run game, and continue to hold a 4.5 game lead over the Braves for the division lead. The Marlins are losing and would fall to 2.5 behind the Braves in the Wild Card race. The Cubs are 3 games back. Horacio Ramirez will face Phillies ace Brett Myers tomorrow afternoon.
