Brewers 8, Braves 4

on .

The Braves not only lost the game, but maybe Chris Reitsma for an extended period. In the 9th inning, Reitsma was evidently hit in the ribs by a line drive. There hasn't been any new information on the extent of his injury as far as I know. Braves pitching got shellacked again. Roman Colon (1-5) started and only lasted 4.1 innings, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Blaine Boyer, Dan Kolb, and Reitsma also gave up runs. Braves pitching gave up 17 combined runs in the last 2 games of the series. It's hard to have enough offense to make up for that. Jeff Francoeur hit another homer, a 2 run shot in the 3rd. Andy Marte had terrible luck offensively, robbed of a homer and a double by the defense, and a single by the official scorer who ruled a tough play an error. Marte made 2 errors on defense, though, and Julio made a tough error as well. Offensive contributors: Rafael Furcal is scorching hot; today he went 5-5 with a homer, a double, an RBI, and scored. Marcus Giles was 2-4 with a walk and a run. Andruw Jones walked 3 times. Johnny Estrada was 1-3 with a walk and a run. The Braves now have 3 days off for the All-Star Break, but Braves coverage continues as Andruw Jones will represent Curacao in the Home Run Derby tomorrow. Andruw and John Smoltz will participate in the All-Star Game on Tuesday. Real games resume on Thursday. Sportsline box score
