This game wasn't as close as the final score indicated.
Braves pitching got knocked around tonight, although it wasn't entirely their fault. Kevin Gryboski had to pitch in the rain, and had to sit down for nearly a half hour while they put drying agent on the dirt. I quit watching after that, so I don't know if Bernero pitched in the rain or not.
Kyle Davies (4-3) started, and wasn't good. He went 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and struck out just 2. Kevin Gryboski pitched an inning in the rain and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk. Adam Bernero took one for the team and threw 56 pitches over the last 3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, didn't walk anyone, and struck out 2.
The Braves scored twice in the first for a brief lead, but didn't score again until the 9th. With a 9-2 deficit, they scored 4 times including a 3 run homer by Kelly Johnson, but really had no chance to come back.
Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 3-4 and scored. Marcus Giles was 2-4 with a walk and scored. Adam LaRoche was 2-4. Kelly Johnson had a 3 run homer in the 9th (his 6th in the big leagues, and he had 8 home runs I think at Triple A) but was only 1-5. Jeff Francoeur entered the game late and was 2-2 and scored.
If Hurricane Dennis doesn't rain tomorrow's game out, Roman Colon will pitch against Chris Capuano tomorrow at 1 on Turner South.
