Okay, Roman Colon and Zach Miner are MLB-ready starters with upside.
But, there's no place for them in Atlanta. Smoltz is a Brave basically as long as he wants. Hudson and Hampton have long term deals. Thomson is likely with the Braves through the end of 2006. Ramirez is just now getting to be arbitration-eligible. That's 5 starters there, and that doesn't include 21 year old Kyle Davies, who is set to take the spot of the first one of that group to leave.
Colon and Miner are both valuable in the long-term as starters. There's no reason to hold back their careers; so they'll get a chance for a team that can use them, which the Braves can't. In return, the Braves get a reliever who's been lights-out and unhittable this year, which they needed.
