Mets 8, Braves 1

on .

Well, Mike Hampton was rudely greeted in his return from the Disabled List. He only lasted 2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, no walks, and struck out 2. Hopefully, he'll be better and sharper his next time out. The Braves bullpen did okay, other than Gryboski. Roman Colon went 3 innings and gave up just one run. Jay Powell made his Braves debut with a scoreless inning. Blaine Boyer threw a perfect inning. Gryboski, though, gave up 2 runs in his inning. I guess it didn't really matter, because there was almost no offense as Pedro and company shut out the Braves. The Braves didn't score until the 8th, and could only score once. Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 2-4 with a double. Wilson Betemit was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. The Braves now travel to San Francisco for a 3 game series. Jorge Sosa will get the start tomorrow night, in the first of those west coast late games. Washington lost as well, so the Braves remain only a game and a half back. The Phillies won, so the Braves Wild Card lead is only 4 games. I'm gonna be really busy the next few days, so no single game recaps; just a series recap sometime on Thursday.
