Braves win first 2 against Marlins

on .

I want to recap tomorrow night's game individually because I'm going to the game. So, here are the first 2 games of the Marlins series. Tuesday:-Braves 5, Marlins 0 John Smoltz (7-5) pitched his 15th career regular season complete-game-shutout. It was a 5 hitter. Smoltz walked 2 and struck out 6. This was a redeeming game since his Opening Day start, when the Marlins pounded him for 7 runs in less than 2 innings. Since Opening Day, Smoltz is 7-4 with a 2.42 ERA in 15 starts and is in the running for an All-Star appearance. Offensively, another All-Star candidate was in the spotlight. Andruw Jones hit his NL-leading 20th homer, and was 1-3 with a walk and 3 RBI. Other offensive stars on the night include Pete Orr, who was 2-2 with a walk and scored twice. Kelly Johnson was 1-3 with a double and a walk. Wilson Betemit was 1-3 with a walk. Wednesday:-Braves 8, Marlins 0 Horacio Ramirez (6-4) pitched 5 scoreless innings before leaving after suffering a strained groin while running the bases. Ramirez gave up 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 before leaving. He is listed as day-to-day. Kevin Gryboski, Blaine Boyer, Jim Brower, and Dan KolBB pitched scoreless innings to complete the shutout. The Marlins have yet to score in the series. On the offensive side of things, Andruw hit his Major League-leading 21st home run, a legendary blast: it was the first ever home run to reach the left field upper deck at Turner Field! Andruw has hit 9 homers in his last 11 games. He was 2-3 with 3 RBIs tonight. Adam LaRoche hit his 8th homer, going 1-3 with a walk. Kelly Johnson continued his hot hitting, going 3-4 with a walk and scored 2 runs. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with 2 walks, a double, 3 RBIs, and scored twice. Tomorrow night, Dontrelle Willis will try to be the Marlins' stopper against the Braves. Willis is 11-2 with a 1.92 ERA. Jorge Sosa will try to match him in his 3rd start of the season. Sosa is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA. This weekend, the Baltimore Orioles will visit Atlanta. On Friday, Kyle Davies will face Hayden Penn. Saturday, Seth Greisinger will be promoted and will start against former Braves "can't-miss" pitching prospect Bruce Chen (who has actually been good this year). And on Sunday, our ace John Smoltz will face the lead starter for the Birds, Rodrigo Lopez.
