Phils take 2 of 3 from Braves

on .

Friday:-Phillies 5, Braves 1 John Smoltz gave up 4 runs to start the game and the Braves offense could never get started. Smoltz (3-4), now undeservedly under .500, recovered to pitch 6 innings with no further damage. He gave up 8 hits, 4 walks, and got 6 strikeouts. Roman Colon pitched a scoreless 7th, Kevin Gryboski pitched in a game for the first time since his DL stint and had a scoreless inning, and Jorge Sosa pitched the 9th and gave up a run. Offensively, Rafael Furcal was 3 for 4, stole 2 more bases, and scored the Braves' only run. Johnny Estrada was 2-4. Brian Jordan was 1-3 with a walk. Saturday:-Phillies 12, Braves 5 Horacio Ramirez got nailed. He didn't get through the fourth, gave up 7 runs on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 2 K's. The offense scored some off of Jon Lieber and kept the game close until Adam Bernero, in his 2nd inning of relief work in the 9th, walked the first 3 batters and allowed a 2 run single. Matt Childers made a rare appearance, gave up a homer then got out of the inning, then his mediocre but not terrible 4.50 ERA was DFA'ed after the game. At least the Braves don't have 12 pitchers (and 8 relievers) anymore. On offense, Chipper Jones was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Marcus Giles was 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and 2 runs. Bryan Pena was 2-4. Adam LaRoche was 1-2 with 2 RBIs on sac flies. In a humorous note, Eddie Perez was on the grounds crew because of boredom while on the DL. Sunday:-Braves 7, Phillies 2 I didn't get to watch any of this game after the first inning, so I'm only gonna go by the numbers. Tim Hudson pitched 7 innings, gave up 2 runs, but walked too many. He got the win and is 6-3. John Foster, Chris Reitsma, and Dan Kolb had scoreless appearances. Rafael Furcal was 2-4 with an RBI and a run. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a walk and 2 runs. Chipper Jones walked twice. Ryan Langerhans had a 2 run triple. The Braves head to Washington for a 4 game series. Kyle Davies faces Tomo Ohka tomorrow afternoon. Mike Hampton is scheduled to return Tuesday night against John Patterson. John Smoltz pitches Wednesday night against Tony Armas. Horacio Ramirez faces Esteban Loaiza Thursday night. The Braves avoid Livan Hernandez.
