The Braves swept the Marlins as they reduced the Magic Number to 2.
Jorge Sosa started, and for one of the rare times this season he was ineffective. He ended up going 5 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, 4 walks, and didn't strike anyone out.
The Braves fell behind 3-0. But they picked up a run in the 4th, and Marcus Giles tied it with a 2 run homer in the 5th.
Kyle Davies pitched a scoreless 6th. Macay McBride and Blaine Boyer (4-2) combined for a scoreless 7th.
Kelly Johnson pinch-walked to lead off the bottom of the 7th. Furcal bunted, and was safe at 1st. The ball got away, and the runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Giles hit a sac fly to make it 4-3, and after Chipper was intentionally walked, Andruw hit an RBI groundout to make it 5-3.
Reitsma and Farnsworth closed the door.
Offensive contributors: Brian McCann was 3-4 and scored. Chipper Jones was 1-2, walked twice, and scored. Adam LaRoche was 1-2 with a walk. Marcus Giles was 1-4 with a 2 run homer, his 13th, and had 3 RBIs.
The Phillies are winning late, so it doesn't look like the Magic Number will be reduced any further today. With a Braves win and a Phillies loss tomorrow, the Braves will clinch the division title.
Horacio Ramirez will pitch against Mike Esposito tomorrow night.
