The Braves salvaged the final game of the series thanks mainly to Chipper, who hit 2 homers and had 5 RBIs. Jorge Sosa (12-3) pitched on a tightrope for 5.2 innings, but kept the Braves in it. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 2. It took him 111 pitches to do that. Macay McBride got the last out of the 6th, but was charged with a run in the 7th as Chris Reitsma got out of it. Reitsma got 2 outs in the 8th before 2 runners got on, and Farnsworth got the last out in that inning. Farnsworth gave up a solo homer in the 9th to Ryan Howard, but got the save. The Braves got on the board first with a Chipper Jones 2 out, 3 run homer in the 3rd. LaRoche hit a solo shot in the 6th. Chipper added another 2 run homer in the 7th. Offensive contributors: Chipper was 2-5 with his 18th and 19th homers and had 5 RBIs. Adam LaRoche was 2-4 with his 16th homer. Rafael Furcal was 2-5 and scored twice. Marcus Giles walked twice and scored. Brian McCann was 1-3 with a walk. The Marlins are losing late to Houston. With a loss, the Braves would lead the division by 6 games and the Magic Number would be at 10. The Braves now go to New York to play the Mets. John Smoltz is listed the starter against...guess who...Pedro Martinez again.
