Tom Glavine pitched a complete game to continue his strong pitching of late to beat the Braves.
John Thomson (3-5) pitched 6 strong innings. Unfortunately, he pitched 7 innings. In the 6th inning he gave up 4 runs, including a 2 run homer to Cliff Floyd. He went 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, a walk, and struck out 6. Lerew pitched a shaky but scoreless inning.
The Braves only run was a Marcus Giles solo homer that gave the Braves a brief 1-0 lead.
Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 2-3 with a double. Marcus Giles was just 1-4, but hit his 12th homer.
The Phillies play the Marlins tonight. The Braves lead by 4.5 games, and a Phillies win would make it a 4 game lead (It would also basically knock the Marlins out of the Wild Card race.) A Phillies loss would make it a 5 game lead with a Magic Number of 8.
The Braves are off tomorrow. The Phillies come to town for a huge series on Tuesday. Horacio Ramirez won't pitch against the Phillies again. Instead he'll be skipped and Jorge Sosa will pitch against Brett Myers.
