The Braves have dropped the first 2 games of a 4 game series to the Phillies, after starting the roadtrip off on a good note after taking 2 of 3 from the Nationals.
John Thomson, who is the 5th starter right now, started tonight and was mediocre. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings on 8 hits, no walks, and struck out 2.
Boyer (2-2) pitched the 6th and gave up a run. Foster pitched a shaky but scoreless 7th. Reitsma also pitched a shaky and scoreless inning in the 8th.
The Braves scored all of their runs with 2 outs in the 4th inning. After squandering a big chance to score in the 3rd, they nearly did it again in the 4th. But, Jeff Francoeur hit an RBI double and Andruw Jones followed with a 3 RBI double. That was it for the offense.
Offensive contributors: Jeff Francoeur was 2-4 with an RBI and scored. Andruw Jones had only 1 hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a bases-clearing 3 RBI double. John Thomson was 1-1, walked, and scored.
The Marlins are leading late. The Nationals also won. The Magic Number once again remains at 13, and the Marlins have crept within 5 games of the Braves with 18 games left. It's not over yet.
