Matt Diaz's consecutive hits streak got snapped at 10 with a groundout in the 9th while Chipper Jones hit 3 home runs in a game for the first time in his career as the Braves coasted. Chuck James (5-3, 4.45) had a solid start, going 7 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 5. Paronto pitched a perfect 8th, and Wayne Franklin pitched the 9th allowing a solo homer. James allowed a 1st inning run, but the Braves answered in the 2nd as Diaz hit a 2 run homer. Washington tied it in the 3rd with 2 runs, but the Braves put up a 4 spot in the 5th and cruised from there. Offensive contributors: Matt Diaz was 4-5 with his 5th homer with 4 RBIs. Chipper Jones also was 4-5 with 3 homers and now has 18 on the season, and had 5 RBIs. Andruw Jones was 2-4 with 2 doubles, a walk, and scored twice. Marcus Giles was 2-5 and scored twice. Adam LaRoche was 1-2 with 3 walks and scored. Lance Cormier pitches tomorrow against Pedro Astacio.
