The pitching mostly shut down the Pirates offense and the Braves won.
Horacio Ramirez went 6.2 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. He deserved to be the winning pitcher, but Yates gave up an inherited run to tie it.
However, Yates (1-1, 2.81) vultured a win as Aybar led off the 8th with a double (charged incorrectly as an error in my opinion on Jason Bay, it was a tough play). Giles then put down a perfect bunt and reached as Aybar went to 3rd. Renteria then hit a sac fly and Aybar scored for the Braves to take the lead.
Baez and Wickman pitched scoreless innings to finish it, with Wickman getting his 4th Braves save.
The Pirates got a run in the 4th, but the Braves answered in the 5th on consecutive doubles by LaRoche and Pratt to make it 1-1. Diaz then homered in the 7th to give the Braves a 2-1 lead before the Pirates tied it in the bottom of the 7th against Ramirez and Yates.
Offensive contributors: Aybar, Giles, Renteria, Diaz, LaRoche, and Pratt each had 1 hit. Diaz's homer was his 3rd of the season.
LaRoche had to leave after he doubled and scored in the 5th with a strained hamstring, and is day-to-day.
Tim Hudson will go against Shawn Chacon tomorrow.
