Oscar Villarreal made his first start a good one to help the Braves earn a split. Villarreal (9-1, 4.13) pitched 5 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit on 1 walk and struck out 4. He threw 65 pitches and 46 strikes. Paronto, Baez, and Wickman finished the game with no problems. The Braves got their first run on a McCann solo homer in the 2nd. They strung together some hits in the 5th for a 3 run inning and got an insurance run in the 7th. Offensive contributors: Edgar Renteria was 3-5 with 2 RBIs. Matt Diaz was 2-4 with a double and scored. Ryan Langerhans drew 4 walks and scored twice. The Braves now will play the Marlins. Tim Hudson will try to continue his recent good work against left-hander Scott Olsen, a fine young pitcher.
