Sorry if this sounds too negative to you, but frankly I'm sick of this season, and am ready for football to start. This season just sucks.
Chuck James walked a tightrope for 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 5 walks, and struck out 6. He left with a 4-2 lead, largely thanks to a Giles bases clearing double.
Ray got through the 6th. Paronto allowed 3 hits in a row to start off the 7th, including 2 of the hits on bad 0-2 pitches IIRC, because that's what bad pitching staffs do.
McBride came on and got his hitter out, but Yates came in and gave up a line drive looked like it might land in foul territory, except it never hooked and never landed. 3 run homer, 6-4 Nationals. Franklin gave up a run in the next inning.
Langerhans hit a 2 run homer in the 9th and the Braves got 2 more hitters on with 1 out, but Chipper and Andruw didn't come through.
Offensive contributors: All of the starting position players had at least one hit except Andruw. Langerhans' homer was his 7th.
Smoltz against Pedro freaking Astacio tomorrow. Maybe Smoltz can keep rolling and get into contention for the Cy Young. Probably not. Prove me wrong, John.
