Alfonso Soriano breaks Andruwís arbitration salary record

on .

Andruw Jones' $8.2 million salary in 2001 was, at the time and for the next five years, the largest ever for a player who went through the arbitration process. That salary is still the record for the highest awarded salary in an arbitration hearing, but Alfonso Soriano now holds the record for the highest salary after arbitration -- $10 million -- and he lost his case. There is a technicality in play here: any salary settled before the player's arbitration hearing does not count, or else Roger Clemens' 2005 salary would take the cake.
