Braves 10, Orioles 3

on .

The Braves won the rubber game and the series. It's the 2nd series win out of the last 3. Horacio Ramirez (4-2, 3.47) had another good game. After giving up a 2 run homer to the 2nd batter in the 1st, he didn't allow another run until the 8th. His final line was 8 innings, 3 runs, 7 hits, 0 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Ray pitched a scoreless 9th up by 7. The Braves took the lead for good in the 3rd, as Kris Benson wasn't sharp. He should have been out of the inning tied at 2, but Miguel Tejada missed a throw on a tailor-made double play and an unearned run scored. Benson himself threw the ball in the seats on a routine grounder the next inning that led to another "unearned" run. The Braves scored 4 in the 8th against some scrub reliever named Sendy Rleal, 3 of them coming on a pinch-hit homer for Chipper. Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 3-5 with his 6th homer and had 2 RBIs. Ryan Langerhans was 2-4 with his 5th homer and scored 3 runs. Jeff Francoeur was 2-4 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and scored. Edgar Renteria was 2-5 and scored. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with 2 walks, an RBI and scored. Chipper Jones hit a pinch-hit 3 run homer in the 8th, his 10th of the season. Chipper didn't start because his chronic foot ailments are flaring up, according to Skip and Joe. The Braves put Reitsma on the DL and brought Barry back up. The Braves now will host the slumping Cardinals (the first time we've played them this year, if I'm not mistaken. We still haven't played the Reds or Pirates yet either.) Smoltz will pitch against Anthony Reyes.
