Andruw Jones and Adam LaRoche homered in the 8th inning as the Braves rallied to win.
John Smoltz (8-5, 3.55) pitched 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, 2 homers, 1 walk, and struck out 9. He pitched better than that line showed, as he took a shutout into the 6th but gave up each run after that.
The Braves took a 3-0 lead early, but the Marlins strung some hits together in the 6th to tie it at 3. Atlanta retook the lead the next inning with a run stringing some hits together, but Joe Borchard homered to tie it. Pesky Dan Uggla homered in the 8th to give the Marlins a 5-4 lead.
Andruw was back in the lineup tonight (as was Chipper) and hit the first pitch in the bottom of the 8th for a homer to tie it. The next 2 batters were out, but LaRoche hit a 3-2, 2 out pitch from left-hander Taylor Tankersley over the right centerfield wall to give the Braves the lead.
Bob Wickman pitched a scoreless 9th for his 2nd save for the Braves.
Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 3-3 with his 20th homer, a walk, 2 RBIs, and scored twice. Ryan Langerhans was 3-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Andruw Jones was 1-4 with his 25th homer.
Jason Shiell goes tomorrow against Scott Olsen, and the Braves will be going for their 7th series win in a row.
