05 July 2006
Hope everyone had a great July 4.
Thomson (2-7, 5.05) was terrible in his return from the DL, going 3.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. Against Chris Carpenter, he had to be a lot better than that in order for the Braves to have a chance.
Tyler Yates pitched 1.1 shutout innings, Villarreal gave up a run in 2 innings, and Barry pitched 2 scoreless innings.
The Braves got a couple of early runs, but didn't do anything else until the 8th when they had a bases loaded with one out situation with McCann and Francoeur. They could score just once.
Offensive contributors: Edgar Renteria was 2-2 with a double, 2 walks, and scored. Adam LaRoche was 1-3 with a walk. Marcus Giles was 1-4 with his 7th homer.
To make room for Thomson, Cormier was sent back to Richmond.
Chuck James will pitch against Jeff Suppan tonight.
