Chuck James got 3 people out. He gave up 7 runs, and a Beltran grand slam in the 2nd inning.
The Braves offense tried to get out of a 7-0 hole. They hit Glavine for 6 runs and he was gone after the 4th. But the Mets bullpen shut out the Braves and the Braves couldn't come back.
The bullpen did a good job, combining for 8 innings and allowing 3 runs. Jason Shiell pitched into the 5th, giving up 2 runs. McBride got the last out in the 5th. Yates pitched 2 scoreless innings. Baez pitched into and out of a jam in the 8th. Ray gave up a run in the 9th.
Offensive contributors: Willy Aybar had a nice debut, going 4-6 with 2 RBIs and scored twice, batting leadoff. Giles, Renteria, Francoeur, McCann, and Diaz all had 2 hits. McCann had 2 doubles, and Giles and Renteria also doubled. Andruw was 1-3 with 2 walks, and LaRoche had a hit and a walk.
Jorge Sosa was DFA'ed to make room for Baez on the pitching staff.
This homestand put a serious damper on the Braves playoff chances. The Braves now go to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates for the first time this season. John Smoltz will go against Ian Snell.
