Horacio Ramirez couldn't make it through 4 innings and the Braves offense was completely shut down after the first inning.
Ramirez (5-4, 4.52) lasted 3.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, 1 homer, 5 walks, and 1 strikeout. The Braves needed more to have a chance.
The Braves knocked around Pedro Martinez early, scoring all 4 runs in the 1st inning to take a 4-2 lead. But the Mets tied it in the 2nd, and went ahead for good in the 3rd.
The last Braves hit was a leadoff double by Chipper in the 3rd. After that, 17 consecutive Brave hitters were retired until a 2 out walk in the 8th. The Braves had 12 flyouts in the game with several of them going to the warning track. But they stayed in the park. It was a very frustrating game.
The bullpen pitched well, with Paronto getting out of a jam in the 4th. Villarreal gave up 1 run in 2.2 innings on a homer by David Wright. Yates pitched a scoreless 8th, and Ray pitched a scoreless 9th.
Offensive contributors: Chipper Jones was 1-2 with a double, a walk, and scored. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a walk and scored.
Chipper had to leave the game after reaggravating his oblique whie grouding out in the 5th. It looked like he was hurting pretty bad.
Tim Hudson goes against Orlando Hernandez tomorrow. The Braves have suddenly lost 3 out of the last 4, and cannot afford a losing streak.
