outstanding, pitching 4 hitless innings with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Yates allowed an unearned run in the 8th and Paronto pitched a perfect 9th.
Not only can Todd Pratt not hit the broad side of a barn, he also can't catch. Giving McCann a night off, he allowed a passed ball in the first inning that let a run in, and threw the ball away in the 8th attempting to catch Ryan Freel stealing 3rd base, letting in another run. His batting average is .189. But he's a veteran!
The Braves got 2 runs in the 4th and 6th, and got the tying run to the on-deck circle in the 7th but never really had a chance.
Offensive contributors: Chipper Jones was 2-4 with his 11th homer and had 3 RBIs to extend his hitting streak. Jeff Francoeur was 2-4. Edgar Renteria was 1-3 with a walk and scored twice, extending his hitting streak. Andruw Jones was 1-3 with a walk. Giles had 1 hit to extend his hitting streak.
John Smoltz against Aaron Harang tomorrow. Hopefully Smoltz can actually get support from the rest of the team, which would be unusual.
Horacio Ramirez had nothing and the Braves had no real chance after the 2nd inning.
Horacio (4-3, 4.65) lasted just one inning. He faced 6 batters in the 2nd inning, and all of them got hits. And scored. His final line was 1 inning, 7 runs, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts. His ERA went from 3.47 to 4.65. He's been outstanding in all but 2 starts this year since coming off the DL, and in those 2 starts he's been about as bad as possible. At least he didn't get hurt this time.
Villarreal finished the 2nd and pitched the 3rd giving up 2 runs on a homer to Rich Aurilia.
