Braves 5, Orioles 3

on .

The Braves bullpen pitched 3 hitless innings and the Braves won. Chuck James (2-0, 2.13) took a shutout into the 6th before running out of gas. He allowed a 2 run homer to Jeff Conine and a solo shot to Corey Patterson. After 2 more runners reached, he got 2 flyouts to get out of it. His final line was 6 IP, 3 runs, 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 K's. Paronto pitched a perfect 7th with a K, Ray a perfect 8th, and after a leadoff walk Sosa pitched the 9th getting a strikeout and a DP. The Braves scored after Giles started the bottom of the 1st with a leadoff walk and Renteria doubled him in to make it 1-0. In the 2nd, LaRoche homered to make it 2-0. In the 5th Renteria walked, stole 2nd, and scored on a Chipper double. After Baltimore tied it at 3, Marcus Giles hit a 2 out 2 run single in the 6th to make it 5-3. Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 2-4 with his 13th homer, knocked in a run, and scored twice. Chipper Jones was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Edgar Renteria was 1-3 with a double, walked, had an RBI, and scored. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a walk, 2 RBIs, and scored. Brian McCann was 1-3 with a walk and scored. Tim Hudson pitches tomorrow against Russ Ortiz, who's making his Orioles debut. (Ortiz got released by Arizona, has lost the velocity that made him hard to hit, and his control still stinks.)
