The bullpen's 5.02 ERA entering Friday night is the highest in the league. Its 12 blown saves trail only the wretched Kansas City Royals (13).
A lot of it is when you roles that aren't clearly defined, you have problems," Reitsma said. "And that stems directly from myself. I take responsibility for that." He has a point. Subtract Reitsma's totals from the rest of the current relievers' and the bullpen ERA drops to 3.59 (vs. a smoking 4.44 ERA by starters). His failure to perform in a sixth-inning role in Houston on Thursday suggests manager Bobby Cox's switch to Ray for the ninth inning has advanced beyond the wait-and-see stage.I honestly don't think our bullpen is this bad. It may not be good or even average, but it's not this bad. Reitsma has just been so bad that the whole bullpen looks bad. He's found a way to be worse than Dan Kolb was last year. Observation: Remlinger hasn't pitched in awhile. Is he hurt and the Braves are trying to be hush hush? Should I say this out loud?
