Another frustrating game for the Braves on this homestand. Utility infielder Damion Easley turned into Stan Musial, hitting 3 home runs with 7 RBIs.
Arizona took a 6-0 lead after another short Thomson outing. Thomson (2-5, 4.65) lasted 4.1 innings, and allowed 8 runs on 11 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, and 2 homers allowed.
Chad Paronto pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Villarreal gave up a couple of runs in the 7th to make it 10-2. (Betemit had hit a 2 run homer.)
But suddenly, Arizona fell apart in the bottom of the 7th: (Got this from

7 runs scored in the bottom of the 7th, and suddenly it was 10-9. Remlinger pitched a scoreless 8th. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, Brayan Pena hit a leadoff single and Wilson Betemit drew a 2 out walk. With the tying run on 2nd, Chipper hit a fly ball on the first pitch to end the inning.
It all was only a tease to the Braves. Ken Ray had his first bad outing against a team other than the Padres all year, and gave up a 3 run homer to Easley. He couldn't finish the inning; Yates had to come on to strike out Craig Counsell. That made it 13-9, and put the game out of reach.
Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 3-4 with his 5th homer, walked, had 2 RBIs, and scored twice. Brayan Pena was 2-5 and scored. Marcus Giles hit a pinch-hit 2 run homer. Adam LaRoche hit a pinch-hit 3 run double. Edgar Renteria had a pinch-single and scored.
The Mets split their doubleheader. The Phillies lost.
