The Braves have gone into an offensive slump, and lost another game to Arizona.
The only runs the Braves got were in the 2nd, on a 2 out 2 run Marcus Giles single. That was it.
After getting 2 early runs, Arizona didn't score again until the 6th, when Orlando Hudson led off with a solo homer. They added one more and the Braves couldn't come back.
Smoltz (4-3, 3.72) pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, didn't walk anyone, and matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts. He gave up 2 solo homers. McBride pitched into a 2 out jam in the 8th, but Paronto got a lineout to end the inning. Reitsma pitched a scoreless 9th down by 2.
Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 2-4 and scored. Marcus Giles was just 1-4, but had a 2 run single in the 2nd.
Bobby Cox was ejected for the 121st time in his career, arguing balls and strikes. The game wasn't on TV, but from what I gathered listening to Skip and Pete on the radio, the home plate umpire did a sorry job.
Thomson against Claudio Vargas tonight.
