Reliever Blaine Boyer will have arthroscopic surgery on his throwing shoulder that could keep him out for most, if not all, of the remainder of the season.
Boyer missed most of spring training and was optioned to Class AAA Richmond last week after struggling in two appearances for the Braves. He has been plagued by recurring inflammation in his right shoulder, which kept him off the postseason roster after his strong rookie season.
He is scheduled to have a diagnostic athroscopic procedure next week. The Braves say he's expected to begin a throwing program in three months.
This sucks.
