John Smoltz pitched a masterpiece, showing Jake Peavy how it is done. He twirled a complete game 4 hit shutout, getting the Braves back to .500. Smoltz (1-1) walked 2 and struck out 4. It is the first complete game of the season in baseball. The Braves got their lowest offensive total of the season with just 2 runs in a win. Jake Peavy pitched 7 outstanding innings for a great game on his part. The only runs came off an Adam LaRoche solo homer in the 2nd, and one in the 7th after Andruw was HBP, stole 2nd, and scored on a Francoeur single. Edgar Renteria had to leave the game in the 7th after hurting his side on a swing. The game lasted just a little over 2 hours. Offensive contributors: LaRoche was 2-3 with the homer. Jeff Francoeur was 1-3 with an RBI. Renteria extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 1-3 before leaving. (Tony Pena finished the game at shortstop.) Tomorrow afternoon, John Thomson will pitch against Woody Williams as the Braves go for the sweep.
