Wilson Betemit hit a 3 run homer in the 8th inning as the Braves rallied to beat Washington and split the series.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Jose Guillen doubled in Nick Johnson. That scored stayed the same through most of the game as both teams mounted scoring opportunities but couldn't capitalize.
Martin Prado was called up from Double A as the Braves needed another infielder. To make room, reliever Peter Moylan was sent back to Richmond. Chipper, Renteria, and Giles all should be returning soon.
Prado, making his debut at 2nd base, led off the 8th with a triple. After a flyout and a walk, Betemit came to the plate and hit a 1-2 pitch over the right-center field wall.
John Thomson walked the tightrope for 6 innings but never fell off. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits, 5 walks, and struck out 5. He got some big double plays.
Lance Cormier (1-1) pitched a scoreless 7th.
Chris Reitsma came on to try for a 2 inning save since he hadn't pitched in forever, and got into and out of trouble in the 8th. After getting into a 9th inning jam and throwing 40 pitches, Bobby brought in Remlinger to face Nick Johnson with runners on the corners and 2 outs. Johnson grounded out, giving Remlinger his first save since 2004.
Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 2-4 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Martin Prado was 1-2 with a triple, walked twice, and scored.
The Braves now go to Milwaukee, and Kyle Davies will pitch against Chris Capuano tomorrow.
