The Dodgers scored 4 runs in the first inning and held on through a monsoon to edge the Braves last night.
John Smoltz (0-1) settled down after the first inning, allowing just one more run over the next 4 innings, but was saddled with the loss. He went 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Chuck James pitched the 6th and 7th inning scorelessly and Lance Cormier pitched a scoreless 8th.
Brian McCann hit a 2nd inning solo homer, but the Braves were held scoreless after that until the 8th inning when they got 3 runs including a LaRoche 2 run homer, but couldn't make it all the way back.
Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 1-4 but hit a 2 run homer for his second homer in as many nights. Brian McCann was 1-4 with a homer.
Tonight, the Braves try to take 2 out of 3 as Horacio Ramirez will pitch against Odalis Perez in another late game.
