01 March 2006
Atlanta Braves 10, Georgia Bulldogs 1 (
box score)
The offensive highlight of the day was probably Jarrod Saltalamacchia's 2-for-2 performance with a double, triple, run, and RBI. No home runs were hit.
On the mound, Chris Reitsma, Oscar Villarreal, and Sean White allowed only one baserunner (a walk by White) in five innings from the third through the seventh. Villarreal's stuff was working; he struck out four hitters in two perfect innings. Reitsma also struck out two in his perfect inning of work.
Horacio Ramirez got the start and allowed only one hit, but also allowed UGA's only run at the start of the first inning by allowing a leadoff double, a groundout to move the runner over, and a sacrifice fly to score him. UGA didn't score for the rest of the game and only managed four more baserunners late in the game.
In the field, no errors were committed (by the Braves, anyway), so hopefully that's an incidication that we can expect good glovework this year!
About 3800 fans were onhand for the Braves' spring opener.
Hooray for the return of baseball!
