Mets 1, Braves 0

on .

The Brave little league offense has reached a new level of ineptitude, being completely shut down yet again, this time by Glavine and the Mets bullpen. The Braves have lost 5 in a row and are down by 7 games. Thomson (0-1) was fantastic again, going 6.2 innings before finally running out of gas in the 7th, loading the bases with 2 outs after walking the pitcher. His only blemish was a solo homer by Paul LoDuca. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 6. Also, he threw 116 pitches. By the way, Thomson's ERA for the season is 1.32. He has had 4 starts and hasn't allowed more than one run in any of them. He doesn't have any wins. That is extremely difficult to accomplish. Villarreal got Jose Reyes to fly out to get out of the jam. He then allowed a hit and a walk to start the 8th, then Mike Remlinger came on and took a page from 2002, striking out Carlos Delgado, David Wright, and got Cliff Floyd to pop out. Cormier pitched a scoreless 9th. Glavine pitched 7 innings and had the Braves baffled, then Heilman and Wagner blew them away. "Offensive contributors": Brian Jordan was 2-3. Edgar Renteria went 1-4 with an infield single, extending his hitting streak to what is actually 15 games (he had a hit in his last game last season). Kyle Davies will try to shut out the Mets as the bad guys go for the sweep, sending Steve Trachsel to the mound.
