Pedro Martinez won his 200th career game and the Mets bullpen shut the door as the Mets took the 1st game of the series 4-3.
Jorge Sosa (0-3) continues to be one of the worst pitchers in baseball. Today, he went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
Chuck James and Lance Cormier combined to pitch 4 scoreless innings. Both were impressive.
Not much else to say. Andruw hit a homer out of Shea into the parking lot in the 6th inning. (There was no scoring after that.) After a seesaw early part of the game, Sosa couldn't settle down and allowed runs in 3 innings in a row. The Braves couldn't catch up.
Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 1-3 with his 5th homer and had 2 RBIs. Ryan Langerhans was 2-4 with an RBI. Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a double, a walk, and scored twice.
The Mets are 10-2 and lead by 5 games.
Keep in mind that it is April 17 and that David Wright and Xavier Nady probably won't hit .400 all year, and Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca probably won't hit .375 all year. Cliff Floyd got hurt tonight and had to leave the game.
Tomorrow, Kyle Davies will pitch against Victor Zambrano. If Davies can get through the 1st without problems, we might be okay.
