Pedro Martinez and company shut down the Braves as the offense continues to struggle, and the Mets extended their lead to 6 games over Atlanta.
Smoltz (1-2) pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. He had to work hard to do it, throwing 122 pitches. He allowed 8 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 10.
The Mets took a 3-0 lead, but Chipper provided the Braves offense with a 2 run homer in the 6th.
Remlinger pitched a scoreless 8th, but Reitsma allowed 2 runs in the 9th to put the game away because he sucks.
The Braves threatened in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't come back against Billy Wagner. Strangely, Todd Pratt pinch-hit for power-hitter Brian McCann with the bases loaded, probably because McCann is left-handed and so is Wagner. Pratt was completely overmatched and struck out on 3 pitches.
Offensive contributors: Chipper Jones was 1-4 with the 2 run homer. Andruw Jones was 1-3 and was hit by a pitch. Edgar Renteria returned to the lineup and was 1-4, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Ryan Langerhans was 1-3.
John Thomson will face Tom Glavine tomorrow night. If there is a must-win game in April, this is it.
