The Phillies jumped out on top early and held on to win. Jorge Sosa (0-2) had another rough start. After a strong 1st inning, he gave up 4 runs in the 2nd, and was hurt by an error. His final line was 4 innings, 4 runs (2 earned), 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Chuck James had his first rough performance of the year. Actually, he pitched well for the first 2 innings he was in, but gave up a couple of homers in his third inning. Cormier got the last out in the 7th. Peter Moylan had a successful debut with a scoreless 8th. Mike Remlinger pitched a perfect 9th. The Braves got 2 runs in the 4th including a home run from Brian McCann. They also got 2 runs in the 8th on a 2 run double from Wilson Betemit. But, they couldn't quite catch up. Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 3-4 and doubled 3 times with 2 RBIs and a run. Brian McCann was 2-4 with his 3rd homer and had 2 RBIs. Andruw Jones was 2-4 with a double and scored. Edgar Renteria was 2-5. Pete Orr had a pinch-hit RBI triple. Jeff Francoeur actually got a hit and scored. The Mets won, so they have a 3 game lead. Tomorrow night, Kyle Davies will pitch against Gavin Floyd as the Braves try to take 2 of 3 from the Phillies. Tony Pena Jr. was called up to take Chipper's place on the roster.
