In what has been a recurring theme this year, the Phillies had a big inning early and the Braves couldn't quite catch up.
There is plenty of good news from this game however. Jeff Francoeur seems to have awaken. He went 3-4 tonight with 2 homers and a double.
I'm getting more and more faith in the bullpen. The Remlinger-Cormier-Villarreal-Ray-Reitsma combination has been dependable. Tonight, it allowed just one run, and that was by Cormier in his 2nd inning of work after pitching a good 6th inning.
Davies (0-1) allowed 5 runs before recording his first out in the 1st inning. He settled down after that, pitching 4.2 innings allowing 1 run before leaving. His final line was 4.2 innings allowing 6 runs on 9 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 5. He allowed 4 homers.
Remlinger got the last out in the 5th. Cormier pitched the 6th and 7th, allowing 1 run. Villarreal pitched a perfect 8th, and Ray pitched a perfect 9th.
Offensive contributors: Francoeur was 3-4 with two homers, a double, 3 RBIs, and scored twice. Ryan Langerhans was 2-3 with a triple, a double, walked twice, and scored. Adam LaRoche was 1-3 with a double, a walk, and scored.
Tomorrow night the Padres visit Atlanta for the start of a 3 game set. Tim Hudson will face Chan Ho Park. Hudson really needs a good start, and the Braves really need a good start from him.
