There are 2 weeks left until the regular season, and here are the most updated stats for the players fighting for a position on the team.
Hitters
Who's Hot
James Jurries is 14 for 30 with 3 walks, 3 doubles, 2 homers and 12 RBIs for a line of .467/500/767
Matt Diaz is 17 for 44 with 2 doubles, 3 homers, and 9 RBIs for a line of .386/386/636
Ryan Langerhans is 10 for 27 with 6 walks, 5 doubles, and 5 RBIs for a line of .370/486/556
Brian Jordan is 8 for 22 with 3 walks, 1 double, and 1 RBI for a line of .364/462/409
Kelly Johnson is 7 for 21 with 5 walks, 1 double, and 1 RBI for a line of .333/462/381
Who's Not
Dave Kelton is 8 for 36 with 1 walk, 1 double, and 3 RBIs for a line of .222/243/250
Michael Ryan is 9 for 35 with 4 walks, 3 doubles, 2 homers, and 6 RBI for a line of .257/333/514. Not really cold, but not as hot as some of the players above. He only has one more hit in one less at-bat than Kelton.
Pitchers
Who's Hot
Joey Devine has pitched 8 innings, giving up 3 unearned runs (0 earned) on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 15 strikeouts
Lance Cormier has pitched 8 innings, giving up 3 unearned runs (0 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts
Kyle Davies has pitched 9 innings, giving up 1 run on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts
Chad Paronto has pitched 9 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts
Sean White has pitched 8 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts
Who's Not
Anthony Lerew has pitched 5 innings, giving up 12 runs (9 earned) on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts
Mike Remlinger has pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits, 5 walks, and 3 strikeouts
Chuck James has pitched 10.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 10 hits, 5 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Not really bad, but the peripherals aren't there.
Oscar Villarreal has joined the closer's competition with Reitsma and Devine after his good outing against the USA. With Reitsma, Devine, Villarreal, Cormier, Boyer and McBride the bullpen looks a lot better than it did at this time last year.
Jorge Sosa is the only player who hasn't returned to camp as the Dominican Republic made the WBC finals. I think that it's possible that he won't be in shape yet to start, and that he might have to go to the bullpen to start the regular season, which would result in Davies making the rotation to start the year.
