The Braves had an offensive outburst in the middle innings for the 2nd straight game on their way to their 2nd straight victory.
Thomson (1-2) finally got some run support and pitched well again. After the Braves scored 8 runs in the top of the 5th and 6th, Thomson was done. He went 5 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 3.
Ray pitched a perfect 6th. When I saw Chad Paronto warming up in the 'pen, my first thought was "What's Kevin Gryboski doing in our bullpen?" The physical similarities are uncanny. Paronto gave up a run in the 7th. Villarreal pitched a perfect 8th, and Moylan pitched a scoreless 9th.
The Braves were being shut out by Brian Moehler through 4 innings, down 1-0. But Brian Jordan, getting a start in left, continued his good work with a 3 run homer in the 5th.
It then all came apart for the Marlins in the 6th. The Braves scored 5 times, highlighted by a LaRoche bases loaded 2 RBI single.
The Braves finally flipped McCann and LaRoche in the order, moving McCann to 5th with LaRoche 7th. Francoeur stayed in the 6 hole.
Offensive contributors: Adam LaRoche was 3-5 with a double, 2 RBIs, and scored 3 times. Edgar Renteria was 2-5 with a double, an RBI, extending his hitting streak to 24 games. Chipper Jones was was 2-4 with a walk, an RBI, and scored, extending his hitting streak to 8 games. Jeff Francoeur was 1-4 with his 1st walk of the season, scored twice, and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. Brian Jordan was only 1-4 but had the 3 run homer.
