Braves 11, Marlins 8

on .

The Braves overcame a rough start to the game to rally and win. Kyle Davies pitched just 2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts before leaving with a strained groin. I don't know if he was pitching injured or not. But the Braves were buried in a 5-0 hole in the 2nd inning. Chad Paronto was a lifesaver for the Braves tonight. He provided 3 excellent innings in relief, allowing no runs, 1 hit, didn't walk anyone and struck out 6 getting the Braves through the 5th inning. Josh Johnson shut down the Braves again, shutting them out through the first 4 innings. But it took him too many pitches to do so, and he tired in the 5th allowing 2 runs to cut the deficit to 5-2. Ken Ray pitched a scoreless 6th. The Marlins bullpen came into play in the 6th inning. Matt Herges came in and allowed Langerhans and Jordan to reach. 2 outs later, Renteria knocked in Langerhans to make it 5-3. Chipper walked, then Andruw singled past Miguel Cabrera to knock in Jordan and Renteria to tie it. McCann then hit a 3 run homer into the Braves bullpen to give the Braves an 8-5 lead. Oscar Villarreal (5-0) had a rough 7th inning, walking 2 hitters then allowing a 3 run homer to Mike Jacobs to tie it. But in the bottom of the 7th, the Braves got the lead back. LaRoche, who came in as a pinch-hitter in the 6th and stayed in the game, doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. 2 outs later, Chipper walked. Andruw then singled to center to score LaRoche. McCann then singled to knock in Chipper, and Francoeur singled to knock in Andruw. Remlinger pitched a perfect 8th, then Reitsma picked up his 7th save with a perfect 9th. Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 4-4 with a walk, 4 RBIs and scored twice. Brian McCann was 3-5 with his 5th homer, had a career-high 5 RBIs and scored. Brian Jordan was 2-4 with a double and scored. Marcus Giles was 2-5 with a walk and scored. Jeff Francoeur was 2-5 and scored, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Adam LaRoche was 1-3, doubled, walked, and scored. Ryan Langerhans was 1-3 with a walk and scored. Chipper Jones walked twice and scored twice. The Mets and Phillies both were off tonight, so the Braves moved to within 5.5 games of the Mets, and 4.5 games of the Phillies. Hudson and Dontrelle Willis have a rematch tomorrow.
