Braves 2, Cubs 1
The Braves won a pitching duel, and have clinched a winning record for the 9 game road trip.
Horacio Ramirez (1-0, 5.40) was terrific in his return from the DL, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1 run on 7 hits, walked none, and struck out 2. He got 13 groundouts and made some nice defensive plays covering first. He's always pitched well against the Cubs in his career.
Ray pitched a scoreless 8th, and after Reitsma got the first 2 outs in the 9th and gave up a hit, Remlinger came on to finish it for his 2nd save.
The Cubs got their run in the first, and that was all.
In the 2nd, Brayan Pena drew a 2 out walk. Ramirez singled to left. Giles doubled to left, scoring them both to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.
Offensive contributors: Marcus Giles was 1-3 with a double, a walk, and had 2 RBI. Brayan Pena was 1-3, walked, and scored. Horacio Ramirez was 1-2 and scored.
The Mets lead the Marlins late, so the Braves will keep pace.
Smoltz against Jae Kuk Ryu tomorrow as the Braves go for the sweep.
