Tim Hudson had his best start as a Brave, pitching a 1 hit shutout against the red hot Rockie offense and just missing a no-hitter. The only hit was by the opposing pitcher, Jason Jennings, an opposite field single.
Hudson walked 3 and struck out 5. He was economical with his pitch count, finishing with 103 pitches over 9 innings. He retired the last 17 hitters. He lowered his ERA from 5.87 to 4.54.
He helped himself with the bat too, getting a 2 out RBI single with the bat in the 2nd to put the Braves up 1-0. Then, in the 4th, he bunted over Langerhans and then Giles followed with a 2 out RBI single to make it 2-0.
Offensive contributors: Edgar Renteria was 2-4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Brian McCann was 2-3 and scored. Ryan Langerhans was 1-2, walked, and scored. Chipper Jones was 1-3 with a walk. Tim Hudson was 1-2 with an RBI and a sacrifice bunt.
The Mets are tied with the Nationals late. A loss by them and the lead is trimmed to 5 games. The Phillies have had a big rally and now lead their game.
Jorge Sosa will pitch against somebody named Aaron Cook tomorrow.
